[edit] Remarks

Cultivated pastures of this grass are ready for spring grazing earlier than native rangeland. It has been widely used to reclaim disturbed sites. It will spread into adjacent native grassland, however, sometimes forming monospecific stands. It survives and spreads in native areas, but dies out in the original plantings if neglected. Cattle will avoid it if there are alternatives. Allelopathic.

Range extends into the Yukon, where it was first collected in 1947.
