[edit] Purple Loosestrife, Including “Morden Pink”

Lythrum salicaria L.

[edit] Remarks

A plant of the water margin that can form dense stands. Although it survives in gardens, seed germination seems to occur mainly in wet soils. Invasive in wetlands, considered “rare” in Flora of Alberta, an indication that some rarities are potentially not so rare, given time. Forms dense stands that exclude native species including mammals and birds as well as plants.
