Remarks
The taxonomy of this species has changed. In the Flora of Alberta it is called Silene pratensis (Rafinesque) Grenier & Godron which is considered a synonym for S. latifolia Poiret subsp. alba (Miller) Greuter & Burdetand. This is the taxon listed as a noxious weed under the Alberta weed act. Although the species Silene latifolia is split into several subspecies in Europe, Flora of North America (Vol 5) recognizes this taxon only at the species level because most of the NA material seems to be intermediate between the subspecies that are recognized in Europe.</li>
