Talk:Hieracium aurantiacum

I know of three current or recent (less than 10 years) localities for Hieracium aurantiacum (orange hawkweed) in central AB. For a number of years there was a large patch in the ditch on the north side of Highway 16, just before the Wildwood turnoff westbound. I can't recall seeing it in the past couple of years. There was also a small patch in the ditch along Highway 16 eastbound, near the cabin motel east of Hinton. I don't recall seeing this in the past couple of years either. Both of the patches were "obviously" escapes from nearby gardens. There is an active patch in the Villeneuve hay field at the Wagner Natural Area. It was first discovered in 1992; it was still there in 2006. The size of the patch has not increased over time; it just seems to be moving around the hay meadow on its creeping rhizomes. Mowing has probably had some influence on its distribution over the years. Classification: minor invasive alien of uplands (in AB); moderate persistence.
