Posey’s Rogues: A Gallery of Exotic Invasive and Non-invasive Plants of Alberta

Introduction

Getting started

Have a name, and want to find information? Use the search function in the top right corner to find all references to either a common or scientific name.

Have a plant, and want to know what it is? At present all we can offer are the thumbnails in The Rogue's Portrait Galleries, below, which link to more information if you can find a picture that matches your plant.

Want to contribute? See Notes for Contributors.

Interested in Alberta weed regulations? See Act and Regulations or Weed regulation.

Consult the Mediawiki User's Guide for information on using the software. Try editing where it will do no harm, in the Sandbox

Posey’s Rogues Portrait Galleries

Some species have no pictures at all, and the gallery only has pictures that might be of help while browsing thumbnails for an unidentified plant. On individual species pages (accessed from the list of species below) there are additional pictures.

List of species

The list of plant species regulated by Alberta's Weed Control Act can be found on page 7 of the WEED CONTROL REGULATION [[1]]

The species in the table below are generally listed as invasive by one or more authorities. All are alien in Alberta, unless noted otherwise (some native species are included to differentiate them from similar exotics). Many additional species are regarded as weeds --- alien species known to occur in Alberta (but not known to be invasive), or native species regarded as pests in agricultural settings. Native species can be invasive (e.g. Aspen incursion into grassland) when not limited by historic disturbance regimes, but are not listed here.
