Remarks

Syringa vulgaris (common lilac) is persistent, but not particularly invasive. Its major expansion seems to be by an increase in the size of the clump where it is planted, as opposed to seeding in everywhere like some other shrubs. Not a serious invasive compared to shrubs such as Caragana arborescens (common caragana), Cotoneaster acutifolia (cotoneaster), Sambucus racemosa var. pubens (red elderberry), Sorbus aucuparia (European mountain ash) and Lonicera tatarica (Tartarian honeysuckle).
